Simple Plan Concert Review

Written and reported by Lyndsey

Date-July 15th, 2002

Place-Pyramid Cabaret

Opening Band-The Rock Band

On the 15th of July, I attended my first Simple Plan concert. Luckily it was an all-ages show; otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get in, because the Pyramid Cabaret is a club/bar. I would have to say that it was a pretty amazing experience, especially since the moment I walked in, Seb Lefebvre (guitarist) and Chuck Comeau (drummer) were right in front of me. As I approached the merchandise table, Patrick Cunningham (merchandise guy and also the guy who follows the band everywhere to film everything) and Chuck were standing there. Chuck whispered something to Patrick, and said "hey, you're Lyndsey, right?" This made the whole experience even better, because somehow, Chuck knew me. I hung out with Patrick for a while and then went to see the opening band. They were a band from Winnipeg called The Rock Band. I'm surprised that they aren't signed to a label, because they are definately worthy of it. After a delay that seemed like hours, Simple Plan finally got onstage. They put on an amazing performance that sounded better than the cd. They all seemed so energetic onstage. They played all the songs from their cd plus a song they recorded for the Scooby Doo Soundtrack, a cover of American Jesus by Bad Religion, and a few other songs not on the cd. The only problem I had, was when some girl came up onstage and started hugging the band members...WHILE THEY WERE PERFORMING! The security guards weren't doing anything about it either. After the amazing performance, (the only flaw being that Pierre and Dave were singing different lines of a song at one time) I got a chance to hang out with all the guys and have conversations with them. After trying to persuade Seb, Patrick and Dave into giving me shoelaces (Dave didn't even have shoelaces), I was told that I had really nice shoes. Once we were asked to leave the club so that alchahol could be served, Jeff came outside and talked with me for a while about Blink 182, strange people and a bunch of other irrelevant things. Simple Plan is one of the most dow to earth bands I have ever seen or met. At the majority of their concerts, they like to visit with the fans and thank them for supporting them. They were more than willing to have conversations with kids, sign autographs and have pictures taken. In all, I had one of the most unforgettable experiences ever and I will never forget the wonderful time I had.

I would most definitely give this concert a ***** out of 5 stars!pierre.jpg

Right now, we're in the midst of talking with Simple Plan's manager to get a phone interview with the guys.
